Job Searching: What's involved?

11/9/2017

First and foremost, it's important to understand that a resume is not a job search. A resume is simply one tool in your job search toolbox (an extremely important tool, but just one tool).

An effective job search can incorporate much more including:
  • A decision-making process to determine what type of job you're looking for
  • A strategy that balances advertised postings with hidden job opportunities
  • A list of high-value employers that you'd love to work for
  • A network of professionals in your industry that (hopefully) you've been building for some time
  • High-impact job search materials including a resume, customized cover letters, LinkedIn profile, portfolio, etc
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Company research
  • Interview prep
  • And so on.

An effective job search strategy includes much more than simply throwing your resume out in the wind to see what comes back. It's important to look at the big picture.

Best of luck!
